Care is love. It is being here, as fully here as we can be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The recipient knows. The student, the patient, the flower, they all know when they are being cared for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When we put our hearts in our work, that is care. It is evident in the quality of work. It makes what we are doing worthwhile. It makes what we are doing more than the immediate result. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That quality of care can touch everything we do. It may come naturally in certain areas. We can bring it intentionally to others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Care is not obsession. Care is love. It is having pride in our work. It is wanting to make ourselves and others happy through our work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Obsession is fear. It is fear of what may happen if we are not perfect. Of how we will be punished if we don’t do it the right way. The punisher may be external\u2014a parent, a teacher, a supervisor. Or the voice can be internal, an echo of the pain endured in a previous relationship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Care is the solution. If we are confident we have been present and attentive to the work in front of us, how can anything more be asked of us? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We must then surrender the outcome. What if, despite our care and attention, things still go wrong, things are still not perfect? Then we must examine the judge. Who is this despot who can say our love and care is not enough? There is no pleasing them. The sooner we stop trying, the happier we will be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
