If I believe my success or failure is based on luck or predetermined factors then I will not grow. It is easier to say “They’re so lucky to have [insert talent or ability here],” than to acknowledge that we might excel as well if we were to put in the same effort and care. How can we say they are lucky? Calling them lucky precludes the opportunity to understand and minimizes their dedication and perseverance.
